Spotlight on Logan Koshenka
Meet Logan Koshenka: Founder of AccuFit, Logan is creating a new fitness app that gives you great custom workouts for any situation.
Tell us about AccuFit!
AccuFit asks its users where they are working out, what their goal is, what muscle group(s) they want to work on, and the level of difficulty. Then, it generates a custom workout specific to their situation.
The idea came when, years after I worked as a personal trainer, I was sending up to 10 workouts per day to family, friends, former clients, etc. I would do the same thing that the app does but manually. So, I thought it could make a great product.
I built the app to focus on 3 things: simplicity, efficiency, and great workouts. The app isn't cluttered with a ton of features. I wanted it to be very easy to use and quick to generate the workout. My favorite part is that the workouts, depending on level of difficulty, incorporate unique training methods and rep schemes (things like drop sets, counting 4 seconds on the eccentric motion, getting the maximum number of reps in 30-60 seconds, and more). Getting through the workouts may be tough, but it certainly won't be boring.
So far, it's going great. I'm really excited about its growth and I can't wait to see the progress it makes moving forward.
What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
"Control what you can control. The rest will take care of itself."
I think it's way too easy to get overwhelmed by every little detail when it comes to achieving a goal. It's easy to worry about all the things that could go wrong. When I feel myself getting overwhelmed or anxious, I tell myself to just control what I can control. It simplifies everything. It says, "Here is where you can focus your efforts. If you just obsess over this part right here and put all of your effort into this part, things will work out." It puts the priorities in the right order and exposes the distractions. We naturally try to make things so complex when they really aren't. Assess the goal. Figure out how to get there. Break it down into smaller steps and get after it. Control what you can control, and the rest will take care of itself.
Who is your entrepreneurial idol?
There are a ton of entrepreneurs I admire. I just finished reading David McCullough's biography of the Wright Brothers, and I was really inspired by their story. The whole world thought they were crazy. Everyone made fun of them. People thought human flight would never be achieved. Mind you, this was only around 120 years ago! The brothers worked obsessively over achieving a goal despite all the odds being against them. The quotes in this book are mind boggling to look back on now, especially because our generation views flying as this normal, everyday thing. They had a vision, worked on it every single day for years, and overcame so many obstacles. They didn't care about being in the spotlight, even after their success. They never badmouthed those who deserved it most. I think there is a lot to learn from the Wright Brothers, from both an entrepreneurial and moral perspective. Plus, they're from Ohio ;)
