Spotlight on Hunter Whitney
Meet Hunter Whitney: Senior at UNC, and avid Carolina basketball fan, Hunter is exploring the world of entrepreneurship through her summer internship.
Did you know entrepreneurship was something you wanted to pursue?
In a way yes, in a way no. People always say entrepreneurship is more than just a career, its a mindset. I think I’ve always had a little bit of that fire/spark in me. I wanted to test it out and joined the entrepreneurship program in UNC, which is a minor, had my first class last fall and I loved it! I’m still very much figuring out what awaits for me down the road, but I think that and this summer has definitely given me the push to know that this is something that I could do in the future.
What are your ways of winding down?
If I’m stressed out to wind down I like to clean, for example, if it has been a busy week and it’s Sunday I like to clean. Sometimes I will need to just call and talk to a friend for an hour and just talk it out, talking just helps me relax! If it’s just a routine day, I like to have a routine when I get home. Change, work out, shower, then make dinner, and try not to look at my phone and actually enjoy my dinner. Or sometimes just go on an endless walk, helps me relax!
Do you believe in setting personal goals?/What keeps you motivated?
Absolutely! I think everyone should, and I’m definitely a goal-oriented person because I think I need a target/direction to focus to push myself to grow. This helps me makes steps towards the direction I would like to see myself move towards. I think having an end vision is so important especially when the everyday grind is just so exhausting, no matter what goal it may be. I think when you’re in the nitty-gritty of it, and you just really have to hype yourself up, (having an end goal) is so necessary, I think. Another important thing for me to stay motivated is that I need to see some passion in what I’m doing, I want to be sure I am not doing things just for the sake of it, and that I can really learn something out of it.
