Spotlight on Estitia "Author" Stone
Meet Estitia "Author Stone": Founder of Girls Circle Youth Development Inc and Owner of E. Stones, LLC.
What inspired you to get into your line of work?
Seeing my older brother struggle as a juvenile and working in community corrections, half way houses, children group homes and case management serving youth and adults with serve mental illnesses, I saw a gap between youth development and career readiness. I wanted to do something that would help youth, especially girls on a broad-scale. My mission is to empower girls to ensure success in their lives and career path, through literacy, tools and resources. Connecting youth to resources earlier, improves their opportunities to break generational cures and improve career success.
If you could go back in time and give your younger self advice, what would it be?
I would tell my younger self, never forget who you are and never allow for your story to define your destiny. So much of our lives we journey through it trying to impress others. Somewhere along the way many of us lose ourselves. So many of us were taught to get an education first, then pursue your dreams and aspiration. No, someone should have told me I could do both. Maybe I knew it. but didn't believe it. Maybe I was scared, living in fear. Nope, I would go after every dream I had as a young adult, if I knew what I know now. I know for sure I would have been a multi-millionaire. It’s coming.
How do you create a work/life balance?
First and foremost, get sleep. Many of my friends and family assume I stay up all night doing work. NOPE! Not this sister. I am an early riser and a cranky all nighter. During the day, I make the most of my time. I prioritize and do not stress over what I do not have control over or what I can not change. I'm not a list person, but I take notes. I carry my planner everywhere I go. Yes, my "Happy Planner!" When I clock out of my 9-5 job, I leave it there, I do not bring it home. I'm usually a deadline person and successful procrastinator, I get done what’s most important at the time. The biggest key to a work/life balance is figuring out what works best for you, applying the tools and prioritizing you time.
